Fused yttrium-alumoborate glasses doped with ytterbium, silicon, chromium, and sodium were synthesized. The influence of the matrix on "spectroscopic behavior" chromium ions efficiency their sensitization Yb3+ luminescence was established by spectral-luminescence EPR-studies. It found that (1) in alkali-free is mainly oxidation degree Cr(III) an appreciable admixture Cr(IV) Cr(V), (2) partial replacement Al2O3 or B2O3 SiO2 Y2O3 Yb2O3 affects to a different extent relative concentration optical centers ions, (3) addition alkali results formation Cr(VI) as result less charged predominantly tetracoordinated Cr4+ Cr5+, (4) Cr3+ make main contribution while lesser Cr5+ play role quencher internal filter. Sensitization through charge transfer band found. An alkaline glass Cr Yb upon excitation sensitizer produced quantum yield 32% conditions for its enhancement considered. shown temperature quenching CrYb-containing significantly lower than Cr-containing glasses.
